Welcome to Compo Beach
The Compo Beach neighborhood is considered the gem of Westport because of its beauty along with the convenience and walkability to the beach, marina, playgrounds, Longshore Park Club, and many other amenities. Located along the coastline bordering Hillspoint Rd and Saugatuck River to I-95,the Compo area offers stately homes, modern houses, beach cottages, and colonials with many of the homes offering stunning water views.
Compo Beach is a 29 acre-park with an extensive sand beach along the Long Island Sound. Residents can enjoy the boardwalk, pavilion, concession stand, two sand volleyball courts, two lighted basketball courts, and a large wooden playscape .Picnic areas are available, as well as many other amenities year-round.
The Compo Beach In-Line/Skateboard Skate Park and Roller Hockey Center, for skating enthusiasts, is an area developed to provide a safe and enjoyable space for skaters of all ages. This skating facility offers rails, ramps, and two half-pipes, as well as a blacktop area for those looking to skate safely, play hockey, or begin to learn the sport. During the winter months, the tennis courts are transformed into an
ice skating rink from late November to early March. For our four-legged friends, dogs are also welcome to enjoy Compo Beach in designated off-leash areas between October 1st and March 30th. Not to be missed is the year’s biggest event, the spectacular Independence Day Fireworks display, sponsored by the Westport Police Athletic League.
Located adjacent to Compo Beach, the
Ned Dimes Marina offers in-water slips as well as dry stalls for trailered boats, dinghies, Hobie Cats, sunfish, kayaks, and windsurfers. The Marina clubhouse is also available for rental for gatherings of 50 people or less.
The second and smaller public beach in the Comp Beach neighborhood is
Old Mill Beach. A 1.8-acre park located at Hillspoint and Old Mill Rd along the shore of Long Island Sound. This small but inviting sandy beach offers beautiful Long Island Sound views, especially at sunrise and sunset. The beach does not provide lifeguards, restrooms, or changing area facilities and has limited parking available.
Joey’s by the Shore featuring Elvira Mae’s Coffee Bar, a top pick of the locals, is across from Old Mill Beach at 222 Hillspoint Rd. It’s the perfect place for summertime favorites serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, with a full coffee bar and ice cream window. Joey’s offers a wide variety of menu options from burgers, hotdogs, lobster rolls, salads to deli meats, healthy choices, and their famous french fries. There is also a selection of specialty groceries, and Elvira’s Coffee bar offers the best coffee selection and healthy offerings.
Longshore Club Park, considered the crown jewel of Westport, overlooks the Long Island Sound. Once farmland, then a club frequented by Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald and their famous friends, Longshore Club Park is now a popular country club owned by the Town of Westport. The 169-acre park is home to the
Longshore Club Park Golf Course – a short 18-hole course with beautiful, well-manicured fairways. The
Longshore Pool Complex and Longshore Pavilion consists of 2 swimming pools and a wading pool, one paddle tennis court, 9 Hartru
tennis courts with lights for evening play,locker rooms with showers, and a full service concession stand with outdoor seating and picnic tables. There is also an adjacent playground.
Longshore Club Park is host to the
Longshore Sailing School, considered one of the oldest and most renowned sailing programs in the country, earning some of the most prestigious sailing training awards. Longshore Sailing School is a public club that teaches sailing and rents watercraft. In addition to junior and adult learn-to-sail programs, they offer sailboat, kayak, and paddle-board rentals, provide private lessons, and host private events.
The
Inn at Longshore is a picturesque waterfront venue located within Longshore Club Park. It offers 12 guest rooms specializing in a warm and inviting experience while providing ample space for special events. The inn offers an exceptional culinary experience for weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, corporate outings, corporate holiday parties, special galas, business meetings, and other life events.
The
Sherwood Mill Pond Preserve offers a natural habitat of wetlands with a walking path and benches for relaxation and nature observation. Located at 191 Hillspoint Road, the preserve is the former site of Allen’s Clam House Restaurant. When Captain Allen’s century-old shell fishing business and eatery closed in the late 1990s, the town of Westport bought the property to protect the site from developers.
