Fairfield CT Downtown, Fairfield Center

The Fairfield Center neighborhood is located in the downtown area along the Post Road. The historic district has a display of beautiful homes dating back to the late 18th century. The homes in the neighborhoods surrounding downtown vary in architectural style from charming capes and colonials to craftsman. Fairfield Center is a popular location to live due to its walking distance to the Metro North train station, vibrant restaurant scene, abundant shopping, and boutique stores. Residents can also enjoy the convenience of living within a short ride or walk to the beach, and easy access to Interstate 95. For more information on the Fairfield Train parking passes, click here for a video on the details.

Located in the heart of downtown is the Fairfield Public Library, one of Fairfield’s greatest assets. It serves as a community center and resource for residents of all ages, supports the public-school system, and offers the community many exciting programs, classes, and events. There are plenty of popular educational programs for both children and adults. Also serving as a cornerstone to community life is the Fairfield YMCA, which offers personal wellness programs, child care, aquatics and swim lessons, youth programs, kids camps and adult sports.

A lively landmark in the town center, Sherman Green Gazebo is the site of the popular Summer Concert Series on the Green that runs from the end of May thru to the end of August. It is also home to the Peanut Butter Jam Concert where kids will enjoy interactive musical, foot stompin’ performances on the Sherman Green every Wednesday in the summer.

Another lively place is the Fairfield Community Theater, now known as the Sacred Heart University Community Theater. It is an arts and education site that will provide a range of events including high-profile lectures, author talks, unique films, concerts and performances to students and the community.

Fairfield Center Stage, located next to Metro North Railroad Station, is a community theater group inspired by the concept of environmental theatre. Center Stage aims to put Fairfield “center stage” by highlighting several of the town’s unique venues and talent. Every summer Center Stage offers Fairfield Summer Stage, a comprehensive immersive theatre experience for young actors.

The Fairfield University Bookstore is a full-service bookstore, located in downtown Fairfield. Operated by the Follett Higher Education Group, proudly serving the Fairfield Community, Fairfield University and beyond. Starbucks Cafe is located within the Bookstore. A variety of author and community events are open to the public. In addition, art exhibits are displayed each month and live music is performed in the Starbucks Cafe on select days/evenings.

A family pastime since 1936, the Fairfield Memorial Day parade runs through the center of Fairfield ending at the Town Hall. With antique cars, marching bands, and floats from various organizations the Memorial Day Parade is a fun family tradition.

Whether you’re looking for convenience to the beach, the train station or to the many restaurants, boutique shops and community events, there is something for everyone in the Fairfield Center neighborhood.
